National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Recognized

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, 2021 will be recognized in Livingstone Range School Division with a non-operational day. At a special board meeting on September 2, the Board of Trustees passed a motion to close schools on September 30 so that families, staff, and students can reflect on and participate in activities related to Truth and Reconciliation and the Calls to Action. September 30 continues to also be Orange Shirt Day.

The Government of Canada recently passed legislation to make September 30 a federal statutory holiday. The day provides an opportunity to commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour their survivors, their families, and communities. Although not officially recognized in Alberta, LRSD is choosing to observe September 30 as part of our ongoing commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

To understand how we can best support all students and staff, we invite stakeholders to share how we can honor and support Truth and Reconciliation throughout the year. Please take a few moments to participate online now until September 10.
